Artist Statement

I have always been easily interested in the world around me. The way I view my environments, what I’d wish for, wonder, or witness, is what I depict in my paintings. My work starts from longing, and through realism and emotionally moving color schemes, I invite us to reflect on ourselves in relation to the world around us–our relationship to comfort and discomfort for instance, and how we characterize the settings that we hold dear with the feelings that they invoke when we are there.

Bio

Julia Ferguson is an artist born in Houston, Texas. She works predominantly in acrylic and oil paint, and currently studies at Rhode Island School of Design, where she plans to graduate in 2028 to become a full-time artist.
